Forget about Chicago pizza, let’s talk tacos…
Chicagos large and diverse Latin American population has dominated food culture in the city. From local favorites to popular (but authentic) chain restaurants, finding a good taco is just as easy as finding an overrated pizza restaurant. Chicagoans tastebuds have been spoiled, so of course, we know where to find the best of the best. Whether you’re vegetarian or not, Chicago has a taco for you. here is a personal short list of some quintessential taco spots to try.

A modern and hip taco spot where Mexican pop culture could be seen on every wall. This local favorite serves up some of the best shrimp tacos on the south side of Chicago.
A quintessential spot in Chicago with tacos to die for. Serving Little Village since 1972, this family owned restaurant has been dishing out some of the best barbacoa and carne asada tacos.
A traditional Mexican restaurant that strives in using natural and organic ingredients. They have some of the best vegetarian taco options. Choices include soy, pepper, and cactus (nopalitos). They also have great meat options, A personal favorite from here is a taco of al pastor.
A late night right of passage, this family owned taco restaurant is open 24 hours. It’s a great spot for fast but amazing tacos after a night out in Pilsen!
A necessity for carne asada tacos and burritos. They can also could add bacon to anything , enough said!
This spot doesn’t except electronic payments, so be sure to bring plenty of cash. They also don’t have a website but I made sure to link the menu!
This Pilsen Resturant has been serving authentic Northern Mexican cuisine since the 60’s. Its one of Chicagos hidden gems for tacos and tamales. A personal favorite is tacos de lengua!
This popular spot has the best barbacoa (slow cooked meat) and carnitas(pork) tacos on the south side of Chicago.

Located in Cicero, a little outside of Chicago, El Indio is a small restaurant that has some of the most flavorful dishes. They specialize is authentic Mexican homestyle cooking. The chile relleno tacos are a personal favorite from here.
One of the most popular taco spots in Chicago! They are located on almost every corner of the city, whether you tried them or not, their tacos and horchata are the best!
